CALDISC/DVD OVERVIEW
 

CalDisc is a law library that consists of a set of four integrated CD-ROMs:

The first CD-ROM contains the full text of California 4th Series cases and slip opinions.

The second CD-ROM contains the full text of California 3d Series cases.

The third CD-ROM contains the full text of California 2d Series cases.

The fourth CD-ROM contains the full text of all 29 California Codes, California Constitution, California Rules of Court, Rules of Professional Conduct, and legislation from the most recent legislative session.

There are over 89,000 opinions contained on the three discs. The content of the discs are identical to that of the California Official Reports except there are no case summaries and headnotes.

CalDVD contains all of the above information on one convenient, easy to use DVD.

The advantages to having cases and codes on compact discs are as follows:

  • Use Keyword searches instead of Key Numbers to find relevant cases in just a matter of seconds.
  • You can go directly to the paragraphs that contain your keywords without use of head notes.
  • Copy and paste quotes directly to your documents.
  • Use case citation to find case history.
  • Save valuable time, library space, and money.

The text of the published cases are organized in reverse chronological order with Supreme Court cases preceding Appellate Court cases. Slip opinions are appended to the end of the infobase. Our proprietary software searches each paragraph of each case from the beginning to the end (including footnotes and appendices).

The text of the codes are organized by code title and by section.

The Software Does Your Work

Each disc includes Folio™ software, used by top legal publishers worldwide. Here's a brief sketch of how it works: All you do is type familiar words, or a phrase, or the name of a judge or attorney (to find all their opinions), or even just part of a cite or code section (sometimes you may not remember all of it), and CalDisc finds the case-law and code authority you want, fast.

Then with a single keystroke or mouse-click you can send your results to a printer, a file, or word processor. It's really that easy.
   

Jump Links

You don't need stacks of books to follow cited opinions. With CalDisc you get 'jump links' that instantly take you from the case you are in to the full text of each and every cited opinion, all with a keystroke or mouse click.
 

Official Reports Page Numbers
For accuracy and convenience the opinions, page numbers, and footnotes are the same as found in the official reports.
 
Instant Reverse Reference List

Here's another valuable benefit. It works sort of like Shepards®. At the front of each opinion is a 'button', activated by a keystroke or mouse-click, that will instantly create a list of all opinions that cite the one you are currently in. It's a fantastic time-saver and CDs from other publishers don't have it.
